[edit]Cognate with Hittite 𒈠𒈾𒀀- (ma-na-a-), from Proto-Anatolian *manā-, apparently reflecting Proto-Indo-European *mn-eh₂-, but the identification of the root is disputed.[1] Possibly from *men- (“to think, *perceive; mind”);[2] compare Ancient Greek μνάομαι (mnáomai, “to be mindful (of), remember”), μνήμων (mnḗmōn, “mindful (one)”), μάντις (mántis, “seer”) and Sanskrit अम्नासिषु (amnāsiṣu) for similar formations.
