[edit]From Proto-Anatolian *ʔépti, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁épti, from the root *h₁ep- (“to seize, take”). Compare Sanskrit आपयति (āpáyati), आप्नोति (āpnóti, “takes, reaches”) and Latin co-epī (“I have undertaken, begun”).
