Cognate with Tai Nüa ᥝᥢᥰ (wän), Northern Thai ᩅᩢ᩠ᨶ, Lao ວັນ (wan), Lü ᦞᧃ (van), Shan ဝၼ်း (wán), , Tai Dam ꪫꪽ, Thai วัน (wan), Zhuang ngoenz, Bouyei nguanz, Tày vằn. Compare Sui vanl (“day”), Proto-Be *vɨnᴬ², Proto-Hlai *hŋwən (“day; daytime; noon; sun”).
