From Proto-Southwestern Tai *kʰwiːᴮ (to ride), from Middle Chinese (MC gje, “to ride”).[1] Cognate with Thai ขี่ (kìi), Lao ຂີ່ (khī), ᦃᦲᧈ (ẋii¹), Tai Dam ꪄꪲ꪿, Shan ၶီႇ (khìi), Zhuang gwih.
