Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀚𑀁𑀩𑀼𑀤𑀻𑀧 (jaṃbudīpa), from Sanskrit जम्बुद्वीप (jambudvīpa); equivalent to 𑀚𑀁𑀩𑀼 (jaṃbu, “jambul”) + 𑀤𑀻𑀯 (dīva, “island”).[1] Compare Pali jambudīpa.
