From Sanskrit เคถเฅ‡เคชเฅเคฏเคพ (ล›epyฤฬ), a feminine form of เคถเฅ‡เคช (ล›รฉpa), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ลกรกypas, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *แธฑeyp-o- (โ€œpole, stickโ€).[1][2] Cognate with Pali cheppฤ.
