𑀖𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀇
Appearance
Prakrit
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unknown. Possibly an irregular development from Sanskrit घृष्ट (ghṛṣṭa, “rubbed, crushed”). For the phonetic development, compare 𑀙𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀇 (chuṭṭaï). For the semantics, compare Sanskrit घट्ट् (ghaṭṭ, “to rub, malign”). Dardic cognates include Dameli gā̆ṭ- (“to want, wish”), Kalasha ghāṭ- (“to decrease, be wanting”), and Kashmiri گَٹُن (gaṭun, “to become less”).
Verb
[edit]𑀖𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀇 (ghaṭṭaï) (Devanagari घट्टइ, Kannada ಘಟ್ಟಇ) (Māhārāṣṭrī)
