[edit]Inherited from Prakrit 𑀖𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀇 (ghaṭṭaï), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀖𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀢𑀺 (*ghaṭṭati). Cognate with Gujarati ઘટવું (ghaṭvũ), Hindustani گَھٹْنَا (ghaṭnā) / घटना (ghaṭnā), Sindhi گَهٽَڻُ / घटणु / 𑊾𑋆𑋌𑋣 (ghaṭaṇu), Marwari घटणौ (ghaṭṇau) / 𑅘𑅞𑅢𑅒 (ghṭṇu), Gojri گھٹنو (ghaṭno), Saraiki گَھٹَّݨ (ghaṭṭaṇ), Punjabi ਘਟਣਾ (ghaṭṇā) / گَھٹݨا (ghaṭṇā), Nepali घट्नु (ghaṭnu), Maithili घटब (ghaṭab) / 𑒒𑒙𑒥 (ghaṭaba), Assamese ঘটা (ghota), ঘাটা (ghata).
