Inherited from Proto-Turkic *ạbuč, a corruption of the original 𐽰𐽰𐽸𐽳𐾀 (ʾʾdwt). Cognate with Chuvash ывӑҫ (yvăś), Kazakh уыс (uys) and Turkish avuç.
