[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *küneĺ (“sun, sunny place”). Cognate with 𐰚𐰇𐰤 (kün, “sun, day”), Chuvash хӗвел (hĕvel, “sun”), Turkish güneş (“sun, sunlight, sunny place”), Uzbek quyosh, Bashkir ҡояш (qoyaş), Yakut куйаас (kuyaas).
