From Proto-Iranian *pr̥tuš (compare Avestan 𐬞𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬙𐬎 (pərətu, bridge), Northern Kurdish pir (bridge)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pr̥tuš (compare Sanskrit पर (par, over)), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *pértus.[1]
