[edit]Cognate with Middle Persian 𐭯𐭪𐭥𐭥𐭩 (pkwry /Pakur/). Of uncertain origin. According to Schmitt, perhaps a hypocoristic from Old Iranian *Pak-ura- formed from the root *pak- (“to cook”), whence Persian پختن (poxtan).
