[edit]From Proto-Iranian *Hráθah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hrátʰas, from Proto-Indo-European *Hrót-h₂-os, from *Hret- (“to roll”). Cognate with Sanskrit रथ (rátha), Latin rota, and possibly Persian رخ (rox).
