[edit]Either from Aramaic or Classical Syriac ά¬ά°άͺάάΆά‘ (targem, βto speak in public; to interpretβ), ultimately from Akkadian π ΄π (/β targumannu, turgumannuβ /, βinterpreterβ).

[edit]Distinguishes itself from both Old Armenian Υ©Υ‘ΦΥ£Υ΄Υ‘ΥΆ (tΚ»argman) and Old Georgian ααα ααααα (targmani) counterparts by having preserved the midsyllable vowel "-u-" of Akkadian.
