From Old Median *Skuฮดah + ๐Žผ (-raสฐโ , hypocoristic suffix), from Proto-Scythian *Skuฮดa, from Proto-Iranian *Skudah, ultimately from *(s)kewd- (โ€œto propel, shootโ€). Cognate with Ancient Greek ฮฃฮบฯฮธฮทฯ‚ (Skรบthฤ“s).[1]
