[edit]From Proto-Iranian *Haraθníš, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Haratníš, from Proto-Indo-European *Heh₃l- (“to bow”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬚𐬥𐬀 (arəθna), Sanskrit अरत्नि (aratní).
