[edit]From *ππ π΄π²π½π (*swΔgns) + -πΎπ°π½ (-jan). Closely related to Old English swΔΔ‘an and to Proto-Germanic *swΕganΔ (βto resoundβ), which is attested in Gothic in various affixed forms such as π²π°ππ ππ²πΎπ°π½ (gaswΕgjan).
