[edit]From Proto-Germanic *stiklaz, a derivation of *stikiz (whence also Gothic πππΉπΊπ (stiks, βpointβ)). Cognates include Old Norse stikill (βpointed end of the hornβ), Old High German stehhal (βgobletβ), Dutch stekel and English stickle.
