Gothic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From π²π°- (ga-) + *ππΏπ»πΎπ°π½ (*suljan). The origin of the latter verb is uncertain; it may be related to ππΏπ»πΎπ° (sulja, βsoleβ), or to ππ°πΏπ»π (sauls, βpillarβ). In the latter case, the -u- might in fact be long.
Verb
[edit]π²π°ππΏπ»πΎπ°π½ β’ (gasuljan) (perfective)
- (perfective) to found
Conjugation
[edit]- A variant form π²π°ππΏπ»πΉπ³ (gasulid) is attested.
- There are two possible conjugations: the first applies if the -u- was short, the second if it was long (see etymology and -πΎπ°π½ (-jan)).
