Etruscan
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Disputed. Pittau claims a connection to Ancient Greek ΟαλκΟΟ (khalkΓ³s, βcopper, bronzeβ); Steinbauer (1999a) suggets a derivation from Hittite [Term?] (/β αΈ«alwani-β /, βa type of drinking vesselβ), but both of these have phonetic issues. Gordon claims it literally means "that which is sacrificed", from πππ (hal, βto sacrificeβ) + -ππ (-iΟ, patient suffix).
