Mycenaean Greek
[edit]Painted wall in Akrotiri, Thera, 17th c. BCE, depicting saffron gatherers.
Etymology 1
[edit]Never attested syllabically, though likely pronounced as Ancient Greek ฮบฯฯฮบฮฟฯ (krรณkos), whence perhaps ๐๐ซ๐[ (ko-ro-ka[), also in Knossos, which would refer to a group of women assigned to gathering saffron, and less likely ๐๐ซ๐๐ (ko-ro-ki-ja), more generally seen as an ethnic designation for certain women in Pylos.
