Etymology

First attested in the Sinjeung yuhap (新增類合 / 신증유합), 1576, as Middle Korean 오록ᄒᆞ다 (Yale: wolwok-hota). Equivalent to 오롯 (orot, root) +‎ 하다 (-hada, to do, light verb deriving adjectives); first element is derived from the root (ol, whole). Compare 오로지 (oroji, solely, wholly).
