[edit]Borrowed from Middle Mongol ᠡᠪᠴᠢᠭᠦᠨ (ebčigün, “breastbone”), whence also Mongolian өвчүү (övčüü). Ultimately from Proto-Mongolic *ebčexün (“breastbone, sternum”).
