어폐 (eopye) (hanja 語弊)

  1. (formal, of language) misleading; causing a misunderstanding
    • 2021 May 24, ““산림조성 40년인데 오래된 나무?… 대규모 벌목 추진 성급했다” [“sallimjoseong 40nyeoninde oraedoen namu?… daegyumo beolmok chujin seonggeuphaetda”]”, in The Chosun Ilbo[1]:
성급했다. 노령림(老齡林)이란 용어 자체 어폐 있다. 우리나라 민둥산에서 벗어나 녹화 성공한 1970년대 후반이다. 대부분 40~50 정도 나무이다.”
      “Jom seonggeuphaetda. Noryeongnimiran yong'eo jache-ga eopye-ga itda. Urinara-ga mindungsan-eseo beoseona nokhwa-e seonggonghan geos-eun cheon'gubaekchilsimnyeondae huban-ida. Daebubun sasip~osimnyeon jeongdobakk-e an doen namudeur-ida.”
"[I believe that the forest service has] hastily [made the decision to cut down older trees and reforest these “old-growth forests” without consulting the relevant experts]. As a matter of fact, using the term “old-growth forest” is quite misleading [in this case]. It was only in the late 1970s that Korea completed reforesting most of its previously barren mountains, so most of these older trees are, in reality, barely forty to fifty years old."
