[edit]Sino-Korean word from 馬韓. Said to originally be a compound of Old Korean 마 (ma, “south”) + 한 (han, “big”).

- Phonetic hangul: [마(ː)한]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
