Borrowed from Arabic عَقْل (ʕaql). Cognate with Assamese আকল (akol), Bengali আকল (akol), Hindi अक़्ल (aqla), Gujarati અક્કલ (akkal), Marathi अक्कल (akkal), Punjabi ਅਕਲ (akal) / عَقل (ʻaql), Maltese għaqal, Swahili akili, Turkmen akyl.
