First attested in 1935, in a bulletin posted on 22 May in Mianning, Sichuan, attributed to the commander-in-chief Zhu De[1]:

紅軍萬里長征所向勢如破竹 [MSC, trad.]
红军万里长征所向势如破竹 [MSC, simp.]
