Etymology
[edit]Compound of 逸 (ichi-, “very, excellent”, ateji) + classical adjective 早し (hayashi), modern 早い (hayai, “early, fast”).
The prefix ichi- is cognate with adverbs 甚 (ita, ito, “painfully; greatly, much, very”).[1][2]
