Etymology
[edit]Compound of やい (yai), the イ音便 (i-onbin) form of 焼き (yaki), the 連用形 (ren'yōkei) of verb 焼く (yaku, “to burn”) + 津 (tsu, “harbor, port”). The tsu changes to zu as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
