Etymology
[edit]Orthographic borrowing from Literary Chinese 沉魚落雁/沉鱼落雁 (chényúluòyàn) and 閉月羞花/闭月羞花 (bìyuèxiūhuā). Literally, “sunken fish; fallen geese; closed moon; ashamed flowers”. First cited to a work from 1813–1823.[1]
