Etymology
[edit]From 歩く (aruku, “to walk”). Composed of the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of 歩き (aruki) + conjunctive particle て (te) > arukite > aruite. Medial -k- drops out due to historical sound changes.
