Etymology
[edit]Derived from the seven days of the week, but with the weekdays, 日 (nichi, “Sun.”) and 土 (do, “Sat.”) replaced with 月 (getsu, “Mon.”) and 金 (kin, “Fri.”).
Originates from the Imperial Japanese Navy.
