Etymology

Derived from verb 恨む怨む (uramu, to regret, to feel sorry for; to resent, to bear a grudge against, to feel bitter about something),[1] in turn from (ura, one's innermost thoughts and feelings).[2]

First cited in the Man'yōshū of 759.[3]
