Etymology
[edit]From pre-Amami *isogari, from Proto-Ryukyuan *isogi, from Proto-Japonic *isonku.
Within the Amami Islands, cognate with Northern Amami Ōshima 急がるり (ishogaruri), Okinoerabu 急がゆん (ishugayun), Southern Amami Ōshima 急がゆむっ (ishogayum), and Tokunoshima 急がり (ishugari). Clearly cognate with Japanese 急ぐ (isogu).
