[edit]Compound of 山繭 (yamamayu, “Japanese silk moth”) + 糸 (ito, “thread”).

- tensan silk thread; silk harvested from Japanese silk moth cocoons
- 1948, Yanagi Muneyoshi, Teshigoto no Nihon[1]:
- ただし山繭糸は容易に染めを受けつけませんが、自然の黄味が既に美しい色を呈します。
- Tadashi yamamaīto wa yōi ni some o uketsukemasen ga, shizen no kimi ga sude ni utsukushī iro o teishimasu.
- While the yamamaiito does not easily accept dye, its natural yellow already presents a beautiful color.

- 2016, Birei-teki KIMONO 2016-nen tōki gō [Beautiful Kimono 2016 seasonal edition][2], page 44:
- 使用する糸は生糸(山繭糸を含む)、玉糸又は真綿の手つむぎ糸とすること。
- Shiyō suru ito wa kīto (yamamayuito o fukumu), tamaito mata wa mawata no te tsumugi ito to suru koto.
- The thread used should be raw silk (including yamamayuito), dupion silk, or hand-spun silk floss.
- 使用する糸は生糸(山繭糸を含む)、玉糸又は真綿の手つむぎ糸とすること。
