Etymology
[edit]Coined in 1944 by the Saidan Hōjin Kōbukan (later renamed Aikikai Foundation), shortened from older 合気武道 (aiki budō, literally “spirit-meeting martial arts”).[1] Compare synonymous 合気術 (aikijutsu, literally “spirit-meeting technique”).
