Etymology

From (ふる)めく (furumeku, mizenkei form (ふる)めか (furumeka)) + しい (-shii, adjectivizing suffix evoking quality of the suffixed term).[1][2] (ふる)めく (furumeku) is from (ふる) (furu, root of (ふる) (furui, old)) + めく (-meku, to show signs of, to have the appearance of, to look like, to seem like, a verb-forming suffix).[2]
