Etymology
[edit]Compound of 受け (uke, “receiving”, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “continuative or stem form”) of verb 受ける (ukeru, “to receive”)) + 皿 (sara, “plate, dish”).[1][2] The sara changes to zara as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
