Etymology
[edit]From 不幸 (“unfortunate”) + 中 (“in the middle of”) + の (“possessive particle”) + 幸い (“fortunate”).
Idiom

- small mercy (from some misfortune); silver lining of a dark cloud; consolation in sadness; blessing in disguise
- 誰も死ななかったのは不幸中の幸いでした。
- Dare mo shinanakatta no wa fukōchū no saiwai deshita.
- It is a consolation that no one was killed.
