Etymology
[edit]Compound of 沃 (yō, used phonetically) + 素 (so, “chemical element”). First used by Morisaburō Ichikawa in Rika Nikki (1872).[1] 沃 was used by Shiba Ryōkai in Shichiyaku Shinsetsu (1860) as 沃顛[2] and by Heijirō Takehara in Kagaku Nyūmon (1867–1870) as 沃陳 from Dutch jodium.
