[edit]Compound of パンツ (pantsu, “underpants”) + 一丁 (itchō, “one piece”), the latter portion in turn from 一 (ichi, “one”) + 丁 (chō, counter). Compare 一丁 (itchō, “(try) one time”, adverb).
