Etymology

Blend of オンライン (onrain, “online”) +‎ 飲み (nomi, “drinking”), the 連(れん)用(よう)形(けい) (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 飲む. Compare 飲(の)み会(かい) (nomikai, “drinking party”).
