Etymology
[edit]Abbreviation of エアコンディショナー (ea kondishonā), from English air conditioner.[1][2] There are two possible origins:
- A borrowing from British English air-con, itself an abbreviation of air conditioner/air conditioning.
- Wasei-eigo, with the resemblance to British English air-con being coincidental.
