[edit]From 鷲 (washi, “eagle”) + 掴み (tsukami, “clutching, 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 掴む (tsukamu, “to clutch”).”). The tsukami changes to zukami as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
