【九州きゅうしゅう】 [proper noun] Kyushu, the third largest island of Japan. The southernmost before Okinawa, it is (usually) composed of the seven prefectures of Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Ōita, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima.

(This term, きうしう (kiusiu), is a historical kana spelling of the above term.)
