Ancient Greek

[edit]

Symbol

[edit]

⸔, ⸕

  1. The ancora, an anchor-shaped symbol, set in the margin of a text, that marks where material has been omitted, or to a restoration of material in the top or bottom margin (according to which direction the ancora points).

Usage notes

[edit]

Unicode notes that the characters are misnamed, that the "downward ancora" actually points upward, and the "upward ancora" downward.

The ancora points in the direction of the shaft of the anchor. That is, points upward, and points downward.
