[edit]The word may be related to ῥαπίζω (rhapízō, “to cudgel, thrash”) and also to ῥέπω (rhépō, “to incline”) and ῥέμβω (rhémbō, “to turn in circles”), but connections outside Greek are not found. The word may be of Pre-Greek origin.
