[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *webʰ- (“to weave”), and therefore related distantly to Old English wefan (whence English weave), Sanskrit उभ्नाति (ubhnāti, “entwine”), Persian بافتن (bâftan), Tocharian A wäp- (“weave”).[1]
