[edit]- ῡ̔́βος (hū́bos)
Etymology
[edit]The element -β- is reminiscent of words like στραβός (strabós), κλαμβός (klambós) and other words related to corporeal defects. A convincing etymology has not been found. Petersson compares Lithuanian subine (“hindmost, back, bottom”). According to Beekes, the word may well be Pre-Greek.
