Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Probably from Ἰβηρία (Ibēría, “Iberia”) + -ίς (-ís), after its native environment. Alessio thinks the name is Aegean and compares the word with ἰβίσκος (ibískos, “ibiscus”) and ἰβάνη (ibánē, “water-bucket”).
